  • Ylotto 2012 Campaign

The last number of years, I've had the pleasure of working on Cape Breton's Ylotto campaign. Traditionally, this campaign has focused on dollar values and loud / busy  graphics (although, in a good "fun" way). This year, we brought things a little closer to home, with more focus on the children this campaign supports, along with more humble typography, and some Cape Breton motifs.

Along with the brand new logo, 2012 saw the design of a new website, various tabloids, posters, post cards, mailers, newsprint ads, and t-shirts. Everything, right down to the lottery tickets themselves, and the sales books for the merchants have been re-designed.

The clean, organic, fresh look of this year's campaign really pushes the fact that this an organazation that is Cape Breton, with all proceeds going to support the Cape Breton YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign. Ylotto has always been a popular local lottery (for the past 19 years!), and the payouts have always been pretty generous, but we really wanted to remind Nova Scotians that this lottery isn't just about the prize money, but about supporting Cape Breton youth. This is why I'm so pleased to be a part of this, and why I look forward to next year's campaign even more.

  • Rum. Guns. (And a little witchcraft)

Erin and I were given this incredibly awesome bottle of Rum by good friend, client, business woman, Nicole Mead. I had to photograph this thing … so, this is what I came up with this morning.

  • Wine

A little PEI dry red wine in our new custom Michael Stanley Pottery wine tumblers. :)

  • Typography

Like any great project, there are some things that inevitably get cut. Sometimes for personal reasons, other times for very practical, or technical reasons. Never the less, when you spent alot of creative energy designing something, you can't help but be attached to it. For better or for worse. Wether it was a good idea to begin with or not! This particular piece was created early on, and although it wasn't used in the final design, I still really like. :)

  • Rita MacNeil — Saving Grace, CD Packaging

Now … in my line of work, I'll admit, I get to do some pretty fun stuff, and work with some pretty cool people, but it's not everyday that someone as world renowned as Rita MacNeil rings me up for some work. Memories of cassette tapes and road trips immediately come to mind, along with visits to Rita's Tea Room, while songs like "Working Man," still bring a tear to my eye (Every time — that's just the way it is). So, I'm completely overjoyed to present this design for Rita's latest recording.

The printed booklet is on a beautiful glossy paperstock, and the recordings are as raw, delicate, and honest as you can get. Check out Rita's Site to pick up a hard copy.

  • MedallionSmokedSalmon.com

You may have noticed already … all summer long, piece by piece, we've been rolling out a fresh new brand image for Medallion Smoked Salmon. I'll be posting a few more projects as they get back from printers, but today I present you with the slick, modernized, social-media-friendly MedallionSmokedSalmon.com

  • Wooden Box

The new Medallion Logo on their new custom wooden boxes.

  • Medallion Smoked Salmon Logo

Medallion Smoked Salmon is a local favourite, and a prized PEI product abroad. With an established brand known for its quality and traditional style, we didn't want to stray too far from the original logo style that people have come to recognize; however, by updating the look and cleaning up the typography, we bring the visual aspect of the brand back inline with the professional image Medallion Smoked Salmon is already known for.

  • Tide & Time Charters Logo

A fresh logo for another project that you will no doubt see a lot more from over the next couple months …

  • YLotto — Your Cape Breton Lottery

Really happy to be working on yet another Ylotto campaign. A number of years ago, we radically changed the look of YLotto with really bright, fun colours, intense and busy graphics, and flying money! Those campaigns served the Y well, and brought alot of positive attention to the Lottery. This year, we're breathing a bit more fresh air into the visuals, hitting a little closer to home — Cape Breton. I dont wanna say too much until the campaign is launched, but I can give you a sneak peak at the new YLotto logo.
